How did I come to know orchestration and score preparation? I was lucky, in retrospect. As a child I chose to play the trombone and never left it, and as a newbie in Los Angeles, I paid my bills as a music copyist. The SOUND of orchestration was my consolation prize for a lifetime of sitting in low brass sections of symphony orchestras, mostly counting rests whle keeping my ears open as others did micro surgery on the orchestration in rehearsals. The LOOKS and PROTOCOLS of score preparation were revealed to me by the requisite snail’s pace journey through thousands of scores as part of the gig in my early years as a copyist, back when we did it by hand.
Please enjoy a close listen to some examples of my how my arrangements and orchestrations have served my clients.
